OVC/PHA Education

1- To create OVCs/PHAs friendly learning environment for improved basic education in schools through:
  • Construction of Classroom block & Pit latrines
  • Teachers’ quarters.
  • Equipping schools with Scholastic & Installation materials.
  • School feeding program.
  • Support school gardening.
  • Provision of furniture.
  • Provision of water tanks/ hand washing facilities.
  • Provision of Afro sanitary pads to girls.
  • Provision of recreational equipments.
  • Supply of sports equipments.
  • Skills on peace & conflict resolution.
  •  Training of teachers on thematic curriculum.
  • De-worming & Immunization.
  • Promotion of Parent-teacher partnerships.
  • Continuous professional development through CCTs.
  • Provision of talking classes & compounds.
2- To support OVCs/PHAs education through HIV/AIDS projects support activities within the schools like creating awareness & VCTs.
3- To train & support career & guidance masters for PSS, MDD, Sports, Debates.
4- To train teachers in counseling especially for OVC/PHA girl & constructed rooms for the counseling sessions.
5- To train PTA/SMC in advocacy.
6- To establish an examination bank & introduction of academic competition & rewards.
7- To build capacity of teachers & OVCs/PHAs through trainings in psychosocial support, child rights, participatory governance & monitoring; and HIV/AIDS.
8- To provide sustainable income generating projects for schools.
9- To implement activities geared towards improving food security & household income through:
crop production; Agro forestry; Vegetable production; Apiculture, Poultry management; livestock restocking; Post-harvest handling savings & credit; & nutrition.
10- To ensure that OVCs/PHAs complete good quality primary/secondary education, equip OVCs/PHAs with basic survival skills, enhance the knowledge, attitudes & practices of adolescents regarding sexuality, widening available alternatives to formal schooling, families & communities in decision making regarding basic education issues.

OVC/PHA Early childhood Care & Development (ECD)

  1. To construct & equip ECD centers with both indoor & outdoor play therapies/materials.
  2.  To build capacities of ECD care givers & volunteers on OVCs/PHAs care, growth & development, transition from ECD to primary & play material development.
  3. To support feeding, de-worming & medical examination of OVCs/PHAs, growth monitoring through immunization & weighing.
  4. To train & refresh care givers to support OVCs/PHAs as well as management of centers in communities & sensitize them in home based/communities on different issues in nutrition, child rights & protection.

OVC/PHA Integrated Health Care

  1. To contribute towards increased access to Primary Health Care(PHC) through:
    • Access to safe & clean water; Borehole drilling; Water tanks; Protected springs, Gravity or Shallow water.
    • Provision of INTs for malaria prevention.
    • Community sensitizations on PMTCT, HIV/AIDS, Hygiene & Sanitation activities/awareness.
    • Facilitate VCT & Antenatal care (ANC).
    • HIV care & treatment (ART).
    • Training of health workers.
    • Provision of logistics to health centers like Mama kits for delivery & Mosquito nets to pregnant mothers & OVCs/PHAs under 5years of age to curb morbidity & mortality rates as a result of malaria.
    • Treating critically ill OVCs/PHAs & distributing insecticide treated mosquito nets in the communities.
    • Promote OVC/PHA male partner involvement in MCH activities.
    • Identify & support OVCs/PHAs with unique medical whose care & treatment is unaffordable to the Parents/Guardians (Sponsorship).
    • Nutrition education & Adolescent Reproductive health.
    • To provide prevention services of HIV/AIDS through post test clubs outreaches & drama; Care services (home based care for OVCs/PHAs, provide nutritional supplements & trainings) & support by providing transport to PHAs children to get treatment from hospitals.
    • To support OVC/PHAs nutrition through training of mothers, provision of inputs like seeds & animals for improved nutrition.

Enterprise Development/Livelihood

  1. To train families (in group) in group dynamics, Village Saving Loan & Association (VSLA) and provide them with a variety of improved seeds, garden tools & animals.
  2. To support groups to engage in Apiary farming, livestock rearing, poultry businesses and cultivation.
  3. To support families in petty trades & Agro business projects like animal rearing and attach them to a VSLA.

Youth Empowerment

  1. To train OVC/PHA youth in vocational & life skill for sustainable livelihoods.
    To support OVC/PHA youth with startup kits to establish income generating enterprises. 
  2. To facilitate out of school OVC/PHA youth to acquire skills in trades of their choice through apprenticeship & mentorship by local artisans to be self employed & job creators for other youth in their communities.
  3. To support OVC/PHA youth with IGAs Like heifers, Goats, Piggery, Tents & Chairs etc.
  4. To construct & equip OVC/PHA youth centers both for leisure activities and hiring for youth income generation.
  5. To train OVC/PHA youth in different trades like carpentry, building & construction; catering, salon, nursery teaching, tailoring, metal fabrication etc.

 Raising Voices for OVC/PHA

  1. This is a youth empowerment project implemented to address the enduring gaps in OVC/PHA youth participation in the planning & implementation of government programs: to conduct trainings for the OVC/PHA youth in leadership skills such as planning & management; lobbying & advocacy; propel writing, adult-youth partnerships to enhance their participation in local government planning and implementation processes.

 Capacity building

  1. To conduct trainings for staff & community structures to build their capacities in management of projects & programs implemented in a bid to enhance needs of the OVC/PHA & communities are efficiently & effectively and sustainably met.
  2. To build the capacity of community structures.
  3. To help OVC/PHA with chronic diseases & difficult conditions access treatment.
  4. To support the federation to draw their constitution, policies & procedures, registrations, build capacities for adult & youth federation committees, Parents & OVC/PHA youth executive committees at community level.To mentor, coach & train Community Own Resource Persons (CORPS) who serve on voluntary basis to emulate our leadership & technical capabilities with sustainable outcomes.

OVC/PHA protection

  1. To work with stakeholders to create a safe environment for all OVC/PHA in Mpigi District through advocacy, lobbying & capacity building for structures.

OVC/PHA Vocational & Leadership

  1. To support out of school OVC/PHA youth by attaching identified individuals to vocational institutions mainly technical schools & local artisans.
  2. To facilitate the OVC/PHA youth with startup tools.
  3. To train OVC/PHA youth in leadership skills & reproductive health.
  4. To support out of school OVC/PHA youth to acquire relevant skills for income generating activities.

OVC/PHA skilled & involved youth

  1. The interventions seek to establish an enabling environment for the enhanced protection, care & development of OVC/PHA youth. The program focuses on promoting food security of OVC/PHA & families.
  2. Enhancing the capacities of the communities to practice modern agriculture, natural resource management & income generation.
  3. Out of school OVC/PHA youth, are supported in apprenticeship & vocational training.
  4. The area promotes engagement of all stakeholders in the implementation, monitoring, evaluation of livelihood projects.

OVC/PHA Gender-base Violence Mitigation

  1. To build the capacity of communities to protect OVC/PHA from abuse & respond to their needs. This involves advocacy for policy changes that can lead to improvements in the quality of life of OVC/PHAs. The area support forums such as OVC/PHA’s clubs & OVC/PHA’s consultative groups. This increase communities’ understanding & acceptance of OVC/PHA’s rights, so that protection, care, participation & development are seen

Partnership building & Empowering communities

  1. This promotes the leading role of OVC/PHA in community development. The focus is on increasing understanding of OVC/PHA’s needs & respect for their rights, strengthening the network of relationships supporting protection, care and development of OVC/PHA, increasing the capacity of communities to conceptualize, plan & manage child-centered projects.

OVC/PHA sponsorship management

  1. To contribute to the Holistic improvement of OVC/PHA’s wellbeing & participation by strengthening OVC/PHA-sponsor relations, mitigating life threatening situations through alerts management & creating awareness & compliance of OVC/PHA production in communities.
