The meaning of:

• OVCs – refers to ‘AIDS Orphans; Children in Abject/Chronic Poverty; Violence; Sexual exploitation; Abuse & Neglect’.
• PHAs – refers to ‘Individuals infected by HIV/AIDS’.

Door of Hope Community School is both a Non-profit institution for; those who cannot afford school requirement (OVC/PHAs) & Profit making institution; for those who can afford school requirements. It is an integrated focus on Academics, Health & Social services for OVC/PHAs; OVC/PHA youth & Community development; Community engagement leading to improved OVC/PHAs their Strong families & Healthier communities. It offers a personalized curriculum that emphasizes real learning & community problem-solving. It is a center for the community & open to every partner, well wisher & donor... all day, every day, evenings

& weekends to offer a range of supports & opportunities to OVC/PHAs, their families & communities working to achieve the results:

• OVC/PHAs who are ready to enter school.
• OVC/PHAs who attend school consistently.
• OVC/PHAs who are actively involved in learning.
• OVC/PHA’s families & communities who are increasingly involved with their children’s education.

The school is engaged with OVC/PHA’s families & communities.

• OVC/PHAs who succeed academically.
• OVC/PHAs who are healthy-physically, socially & emotionally.
• OVC/PHAs who live & learn in safe, supportive & stable environment.

Just like SMART PHONES, it is a school with operating systems that makes all the “apps” work in a synchronized manner where communities connect, collaborate & create OVC/PHAs & their families have an array of supports from community partners’ right at their school. The school & communities leverage their physical & human assets to help OVC/PHAs succeed. It contains a host of opportunities & supports built-in that give OVC/PHAs & partners all the tools they need to learn & grow.

Supplementary Community School for OVC/PHAs; Door of Hope Community School is a

supplementary school for OVC/PHAs across Buwama Sub county agenda in Mpigi District-Uganda. It is organized & managed by Mother Mary Charity Organization & all of which aim to encourage disadvantaged children to be high-achievers, to reach their full academic potential & to open up new opportunities to give them a better future. It was formed as a lobby & advocacy platform to raise the issue of OVC/PHAs. Uganda as a country as a country is working towards the elimination of OVCs through free education zone concept  but failed to offer more teachers, lunch & breakfast, uniform, pens, pencils etc to them since OVCs families cannot afford to supplement their educators.
